If you need a trash cart, please contact the township office and we will arrange for one to be dropped off to you. Please let us know if you need another recycle bin or a sticker to put on your own container. Your questions and constructive comments are welcome. HOW TO APPLY FOR A BURN PERMIT
Getting a burn permit for your area has never been easier. Go to www.michigan.gov/burnpermit on the internet and use the "interactive map" to find the burn conditions in your area. If "YES" appears in the Burning Permits Issued column, you are authorized to burn today. This serves as your burn permit. You don't need to print anything. Camp fires do not require a permit. You can also call 1-866-922-2876 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. seven days a week. After listening to the pre-recorded message, you can stay on the line and a representative will speak with you
You can also call the township offices Monday thru Friday between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. and we can assist you in getting the information. It is important to find out if burning is permitted each day, it could prevent possible mishaps and/or fines.

Dredge Hole Maps
Houghton Lake contains a number of "Dredge Holes" located near the shore line in numerous places. These "holes" date back to the 1950s and there have been several tragic accidents over the years. Through the efforts of a local citizens group with the cooperation of Roscommon County, a map has been developed to identify these potentially dangerous areas. Thus far fifty one holes have been identified. A map is available at the township hall showing the GPS coordinates along with the approximate area and depth of each hole. There is no charge for the map. If you are staying at one of the many resorts in the township they should have a copy of the map for your review.
