Houghton lake contains a number of “Dredge Holes” located near the shore line in numerous place. These “holes” date back to the 1950s and there have been several tragic accidents over the years. Through the efforts of a local citizen group with the cooperation Roscommon Country, a map has developed to identify these potentially dangerous areas. Thus far, fifty one holes been identified. A map is available at the township hall showing the FPS coordinates along with the approximate area and depth of each hole. There is no charge for the map. if you are staying at one of the many resorts in the township they should have a copy of the map for review.
