The Markey Township Ice Rink is located at 4974 E Houghton Lake Dr, next to Truman Gardner Park. The rink typically opens between December and January, depending on weather and ice conditions.
Rink lights are on daily until 10:00 PM. A warming shack is available, and donated ice skates are provided for public use—please remember to return skates after use so others may enjoy them.
The rink may close periodically for maintenance or due to unsafe conditions. If a closure sign is posted, please stay off the ice for everyone’s safety. For the most up-to-date information, closures, or weather-related announcements, check the Markey Parks Facebook page.
The Annual Chicken BBQ, hosted by the Markey Firefighter Association, is held each year on the second Saturday in August at 2113 N Markey Rd, Houghton Lake, MI 48629. Meals are served beginning at 11:00 AM and continue until sold out. Proceeds support local firefighting efforts.
The Markey Firefighter Association invites the community to our Annual Christmas Tree Lighting, held the Saturday following Thanksgiving from 5:00–8:00 PM at 2113 N Markey Rd, Houghton Lake, MI 48629. Enjoy a festive evening filled with hot chocolate, donuts, giveaways, goodie bags, and a special visit with Santa.
The Markey Township Park & Rec Committee hosts the Markey Merchant Market to raise funds in support of Markey Township Parks. The event date is to be announced, with more details coming soon.
